Ode to Drywall.....

I have found a new found respect for the people who spend their lives with drywall. You must be the most patient people ever, or crazy, I'm not totally sure. Sunday afternoon, I managed to fight with some cement board and got 2 1/2 walls done in my shower yesterday. It is the first time the f-bomb has been uttered throughout the entire project, which I think is a good sign to make it this far without swearing. But I did get it done. Now I have one more board to put in place, tape the final wall, mud it and sand it all.

Tonight I will be laying the final cement in the base to get that ready for tile after I finish the walls in the shower. My cousin Chris came over this weekend and helped me get the plumbing started. He left me his tools and I cut some copper pipe and sautered it back together to lengthed the shower height and finished the new shower head and handle. And it didn't leak!! Pretty cool. Chris then stopped back over to wire a light for the shower and help me finish the framing of the walls. Now it is getting close to tile time. I am very happy with the progress and where I am with my budget. Right on track so far. A few more hours of work this week before I go to Chicago with mom and dad and then off to Texas for a week for work.

Here is the progress as of Sunday night, it's coming together! Oh, and Myles came over for a visit with Steve, mom and dad.

Level One... Done

Last night was my first adventure with laying down the concrete floor in the shower. I am building a custom shower pan since I expanded the shower, a fiberglass base was not in the size I needed. Plus it's fun to tackle new challenges. I mixed up a half bag of sand mixture, only to realize that I would be heading back to Home Depot, for the second time that day to get more. Luckily the Depot is about 10 minutes away. I wish they had a frequent flier card for that store.

So after I got more cement, I got the rest of the floor laid and sloped to the drain. I was a little picky about some lines in the cement, but then realized it doesn't matter. This will be under a rubber sheet, another layer of cement, and mortar and tile...... a few little lines won't kill me.

I checked on the drying this morning and all looks great. I will be laying the rubber sheet tonight and then more cement. Should be a productive weekend in the bathroom..... don't take that the wrong way :)

Moving Along Nicely

Last night I was able to finish up the framing, once I got a better drill!! I learned that a little 9 volt is not the best for screwing in 4" screws...... But lesson learned.

After my 5th or 6th trip to Home Depot in the last 7 days, i am really ready to get moving on the shower. Framing is done and the drain went in last night. Tonight is the first level of concrete to smooth the floor and start building the shower pan. Then hopefully some good progress tomorrow and all day Saturday.

Last, or next trip to Home Depot will be the rest of the tile for the shower walls, floor and the thinset. They are getting to know me there. So far I am doing very well on my budget. Very happy with the project so far. I will get some more pictures this weekend as progress continues.

Thanks for checking in on my crazy life!

Framing Fools!

So the demo is done and rebuilding has begun. Katie and Terri have been helpful along the way with being a second set of eyes. Terri and I framed up the wall I removed last week to make the shower 6" longer. It sill looks cozy, but I am happy with the progress so far. Tonight is another trip to my second home, Home Depot. Getting the drain and hopefully if all goes well I will be laying the first layer of cement tomorrow night to start getting the floor ready for tile. Here are some pictures from the work over the weekend and last night.
